The development of our Security Concept in the era of increased uncertainty

Vienna, 21/01/2025 – The new year is not breaking our expectations and outlooks on European security and foreign policy developments, both positively and negatively. Indeed, with the second mandate of the Trump administration in the United States that just started yesterday 20th January 2025 with the sworn-in of the President-Elect, the ground-breaking truce in the Middle East, and the instability of multilateral organisations target of revisionist powers, the International Community NGO reiterates the importance to support the shared European values, human rights, climate action, and the security of the European Union in the in light of the growing international challenges. Therefore, our common interest as a registered advocacy group at the European Parliament is to commit ourselves and engage more in security talks with other NGOs, European Institutions, and partners.

After the first policy area including climate action and human rights which already involves around ten junior members of the Community, an additional group made of senior members will be working and focusing on international security and European defence strategy analysis delivering reviews, opinions, and reports from the specialised European Parliament Committees on Foreign Affairs and the Subcommittee on Defence and Security.

Consequently, in the upcoming weeks, our team will publish the so-called Security Concept of the International Community NGO which will feature the main priorities for our NGO towards the security field. Considering that the European Union faces a critical security juncture due to the war in Ukraine and broader Russian aggression, this necessitates a more independent and robust European defence. A comprehensive approach is required, encompassing military, human, environmental, and gender dimensions of security. Throughout the paper, the working group will promote the strengthening of EU defence capabilities through increased cooperation, joint procurement, and investment in advanced technologies while complementing NATO. The International Community NGO’s goal is finally a united, prepared, and resilient Europe capable of safeguarding its future and promoting a rules-based international order.
